New Report Highlights Economic Impact of Military in North Carolina

Raleigh, NC – The military supports 540,000 jobs, including 340,000 in the private sector, according to a new report released today by the N.C. Department of Commerce. The report also found the military boosts the state’s personal income by more than $30 billion.

The study, released by the Labor & Economic Analysis Division, concludes the military accounts for nearly 10 percent of all economic activity in North Carolina. >>READ MORE

 

Deputy Secretary Ash Carter defends F-35 program at bases that will be flying the planes

Outgoing Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has been using some of his remaining days as the Pentagon’s No. 2 to tout the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as a job-saving hedge against budget cuts.

In visits to Western air bases this week, Carter, who stunned the Pentagon last month with the announcement of his retirement, said that DoD’s commitment to the F-35 would protect civilian and contractor jobs. >>READ MORE

 

Northeastern NC leaders visit PA wind energy site; local governments are considering ordinances

“It was a good opportunity to see (a turbine farm) in progress and how it worked,” Pasquotank County Assistant Manager Rodney Bunch said.

Bunch was part of a group of area leaders who traveled by bus Oct. 8 to Somerset County, an area southeast of Pittsburgh where 121 wind turbines are located.

Officials made the trip at the invitation of Iberdrola Renewables, the firm that operates 23 of the turbinesat what is known as the Casselman Wind Power Project. >>READ MORE
