Ceremony bids farewell to Col Todd Ferry as CO of MCAS Cherry Point and welcomes Col Mike Huber.

From the Sun Journal — An approaching change in leadership at the air station in Havelock will bid farewell to a beloved community leader of three years and welcome a 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Operations Marine whose career began here 23 years ago.

Col. Todd W. Ferry will give over the helm of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point to Col. Mikel R. Huber during a change of command ceremony Friday, August 2nd at 10 a.m. Ferry has served as the air station’s commanding officer since July 28, 2016. He demonstrated a standard of executive leadership that enhanced Cherry Point’s reputation as the primary hub of East Coast Marine Corps aviation, leading the transition for basing the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.  >>read more

Havelock’s mayor said Monday that president-elect Donald Trump is welcome to come visit Cherry Point and discover for himself how valuable the F-35 program is to the nation’s defense as well as the economy of North Carolina. Mayor Will Lewis, who is also president of the base lobby group Allies for Cherry Point’s Tomorrow, was wearing both hats at a press conference to answer questions in response to a tweet by the president-elect Monday morning in which he called the F-35 program and costs “out of control.” >>READ MORE

Friday, September 9 from 5:30 – 7:30pm
> Golfers will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres with cold beverages
> Tickets for door prizes will be provided to event attendees
> Restaurant / lounge will be open for additional purchases by the event attendees

Practice Round included week of Tournament

Golf Tournament; Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, Sept 11 from 8:30am – 1:30pm
> Shotgun start each day
> Meal provided before and after each round of play
> Beverage carts and Bud ambassadors will be circulating during play with complimentary beverages supplied by Pepsi and Budweiser
> Teams are selected by computerized blind draw system utilizing A, B, C, D players.
> NO HANDICAP – no problem, call Jim Ferree at 466-3044 to establish tournament handicap
Saturday Format – Best Ball
Sunday Format – Superball, Captain’s choice (no handicaps)
Awards ceremony will begin at 5:30pm on Sunday with prizes valued at up to $8,000
